Episode 12 synopsis/recap/summary

Hong Dae Joo relays that he needs to capture the female monk in order to obtain the other half of the map. He continues to ask Chun about a book called "Muyesinbo" which details assassin skills, written under the order of Crown Prince. He also heard about the martial arts book Sword Saint wrote during his trip to the Qing Nation. Okay, this is too convenient, no? Did Sword Saint tell him about his personal writing project?!

This request upsets Chun because he IS someone who can write the same book: "Why do I need to find that useless book?" Hong Dae Joo basically says fine, but he'll find the book anyway. He then asks for Chun's aid in another plan, a better solution than killing Crowd Prince.

Now, we are brought back to Yeo Woon and his mission. While he stabs two mountain brothers in the room, the third one - Yong Geol - is attacked by two assassins as he exits the bathhouse. Yeo Woon intervenes and stabs the last one. Before Yong Geol falls, he throws a weapon Yeo Woon's way and it cuts him across the shoulder.

The people are slayed so Yeo Woon sends the two assassins off and promises to clean up everything. When they are out of sight, he rushes back inside the house and makes sure his three friends are still alive. With medical kits and his skill in needles, he puts them in a stable state before heading outside.

On the steps, Yeo Woon sighs in relief and looks up at the sky, probably asking "What the hell am I doing?" Yea, buddy.

Back at the hideout, Sword Saint feels anxious all night and is unable to sleep. He tells Dong Soo and Cho Rip to prepare, they're going back to the palace. What about Sa Mo, Dong Soo asks. Ji Sun volunteers to take care of him. Hey! Hey! Woman, don't try to earn cookie points here.

In the palace, Chief Im ponders about what the King told him. As the King of a country, he has the duty to investigate Prince Sado's crime and punishes him accordingly, but as a father, he wants Chief Im to save his son.

As a promise from last time, Sword Saint meets with Ji to listen to her answer - Will you leave with me?

Gwang Taek: "So Ga Ok, have you found an answer? Do you not want to leave with me?"

Ji: "Today is the last day I'll be seeing you."

Sword Saint pulls out his sword, Ji does the same thing. What now? You two gonna fight it out? That's interesting because I have read that Ji is definitely a dark horse in this martial arts realm, her skill not being below Sword Saint.

They take a few shots at each other and Ji calls him out for being merciful. Sword Saint's reply is nostalgic, "Not to an old love." When she insists he shows the acquired skills in the past twenty years, Gwank Taek tells her to watch carefully.

Nice. This is pretty, um, sexy! It looks like they fall into each other's arm more often than battle it out with their swords. hehe.

At the end of it, Sword Saint mentions his meeting with Hwang Jin Gi and finds that his daughter bears great resemblance to Ji. Holding in her tears, Ji doesn't say much other than, it's a story of the past. He continues, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, is my greed too crazy?" Ji says regrettably, it's time for him to let her go.

Dong Soo and Cho Rip arrive at the butcher house at the same time as Chief Im. Jang Mi is taking care of the unconscious boys while Yeo Woon sits in the corner. Chief Im sees the wound on his shoulder and asks how he got hurt. Yeo Woon is caught in his lie because Chief Im recognizes that the weapon is only used by pupils in the warrior camp. Everyone watches this conversation with bated breath (me too!). Until Dong Soo breaks the silence by saying it's indeed caused by the assasins because Yeo Woon acted as a bait to lure them in. Chief Im doesn't buy the explanation and prepares to hear from the injured brothers.

Sang Gak, the boy who was able to identify Yeo Woon behind his mask, wakes up. Initially, he's all flared up, ready to expose Yeo Woon, but once he's confirmed that the boys are all alive, his temper is mitigated. Sang Gak is angry because Yeo Woon was slow to come to their rescue. Whew. When they're alone, Sang Gak wants to hear Yeo Woon's explanation.

After she learns about Sa Mo's injury, Jang Mi drowns herself in drinks. Sitting beside her, Mi So's eyebrows arch, promising to take revenge on the people who has hurt her loved ones. Oh, what's this...a fierce lady in the making! =D

Returning to the palace, Yeo Woon is called in to meet with Hong Dae Joo. Yeo Woon expresses his ambition to climb the social ladder and seeks advice. Hong Dae Joo basically tells him to suck up to the stronger folks and tramples over the weak. Moreover, he knows about Yeo Woon's real identity. Not good.

In the meeting room, Chief Im lays out the plan to the boys. They will need to escort Prince Sado out of the palace secretly. But there's a catch! One of them must act as a body double for Prince Sado. Dong Soo stutters upon hearing this because impersonation means death penalty if the faker is caught. Oh my goodness, are you serious! This stinks! I hate this!

Swallowing down the risks, Dong Soo volunteers for this task. His analysis goes like this: Yeo Woon excels in all aspects, so he's needed for future big plans. And Cho Rip is most likely to mess things up because he's a Scaredy Cat. And me? All of a sudden, I'm getting emotional.

Once they're outside of the room, Dong Soo tries to lighten up the tension by saying that life's short anyway. He leaves and Yeo Woon follows him. Cho Rip, however, walks back to the room and accidentally overhears Chief Im talking with his underlings. Chief Im doesn't want to let Dong Soo die because he's the only bloodline left of the Baek clan. Also, Sword Saint lost an arm to save the boy's life.

At the hideout, Sword Saint and Ji Sun bid goodbye to Hwang Jin Gi and Jin Ju, leaving Sa Mo in their care. ha! Sa Mo quickly rushes out and insists that he's fine. Like a charging bull, he leads the way.

Now that they're alone, Jin Ju confesses that she's in bad mood because of Ji Sun's stunning beauty. How could anyone just sit and still look so beautiful? Hwang Ji Gi cracks up at his daughter's silly comment and assures her, "Jin Ju-ah, you're pretty too. The most beautiful in this world." Aw, having a father is great.

Alone with Dong Soo, Cho Rip tries to talk Dong Soo out of the fatal mission. But Dong Soo sees through the kind intention of his friend and quickly dismisses any persuasive talk. From afar, Yeo Woon looks at his friends. A tiny part of me is miffed at Yeo Woon for remaining silent throughout this death talk.

The higher ups, including Hong Dae Joo and Hong Bo Han, are celebrating Prince Sado's demise. Hong Dae Joo reminds them not to be happy this early, there's still Sword Saint left.

Cut to Sword Saint, Sa Mo, and Ji Sun entering the butcher shop with a whole troop waiting for them. The King has appointed Sword Saint to check on a Japanese residence in Gyeong Sang province due to their suspicious behavior. It's obviously a trap, says Sa Mo, but Sword Saint confirms that the edict is authentic. Sa Mo suggests they talk first with Chief Im. And hence, Sword Saint hurries into the palace. He is denied access based on the new curfew.

Going around, Sword Saint ends up at Hong Dae Joo's drinking party. He says that the edict is indeed entrusted to Sword Saint personally by the King. And he proceeds to pour a drink for Gwang Taek. I would never drink that cup, if I were you, after it has been tainted by Mr. Pig. Sword Saint brings the cup to his lips and we see an evil smile on Hong Dae Joo's face because the cup is poisoned! Even a small amount could lead to rotting of the internal organs.

Once he's outside, the poison takes effect. Sword Saint spits out blood and crumbles to the ground. People gather around but it's only one man who looks like he knows Sword Saint.

This night is especially long and dark as everyone broods about the unknown future. Dong Soo sits on the palace steps, staring at the moon. Joining him is Cho Rip with a bottle of alcohol in hands. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? He's drugging Dong Soo!

Morning comes and Prince Sado is led out of jail, prepared for his punishment. Cho Rip then enters the room and the Prince is puzzled at his presence. It is then revealed that Cho Rip had indeed drugged Dong Soo. Man, I'm always right in bad situations! Prince Sado disagrees with this plan but Cho Rip pleads earnestly, "Please allow this subject to do what he must do as a man. It's for Crown Prince's sake, as well as for Dong Soo's." T_T....Why am I tearing already....

Dong Soo wakes up and reads the short letter left behind by Cho Rip, "Sorry Dong Soo, I can't stay with you." He brushes past Yeo Woon and heads to Chief Im. They wrestle each other, throwing one another against the wall and still Dong Soo fails to escape Chief Im's grip. He tells Dong Soo to use his head and think ahead of the situation but the latter snaps back, "I can't! My head is a decoration, okay? Ever since I was born, I live with my heart!" What a beautiful statement Dong Soo-ah. The whole time, Yeo Woon watches the confrontation with tears.

Prince Sado is punished to lived the remaining years of his life in solitary confinement...in a BOX!

Dong Soo gathers himself together and leaves immediately to tell Sword Saint of the plan. He reaches the butcher house and sees only Sa Mo, along with Ji Sun. Sa Mo thinks they need to find Sword Saint's daughter as soon as possible. What? When did Sword Saint know he has a daughter? And how did Sa Mo know? Wha?

Anyway, Sa Mo and the mountain brothers head out to look for Sword Saint while Dong Soo escorts Ji Sun to meet up with Prince Sado. Is it just me? But seeing Dong Soo smiling with Ji Sun makes no sense! He was crying brutally just five minutes earlier! What's worst is that he brings Ji Sun out into the open markets like they taking a Joseon tour! When he senses danger, he sends Ji Sun (on a horse) ahead while he deals with the suspicious men.

Back in the palace, Chief Im's underlings proceed as planned and Cho Rip enters the box heroically. He chants to himself, "It's going to be okay...It's alright."

In the secret passage, Prince Sado meets with Chief Im. Outside, Yeo Woon and another officer exit safely on an errand of transporting a cart of military supplies. Hong Dae Joo's assassin watches intently and reports back to his master. Hong Dae Joo immediately calls in the help of Chun.

Chun takes away Ji's sword and forbids her from going. He's going to battle to the end with Sword Saint today.

Marching through the forest, Hoksa Chorong's assassins gather around the cart. The officer fights till his death. He looks perplexedly at Yeo Woon's unresponsive reaction to this attack and finally realizes that Yeo Woon is the traitor. After he dies, they open the cart and weapons come flying out. Hoho! They have been duped too.

Prince Sado and Chief Im finally make it outside but the escape horse is missing. Coming at them in full force is Hoksa Chorong's assassins, leading them is Hong Dae Joo's man. This is bleak.

Chief Im lunges forward and takes down several men while the Prince holds his own in the back. The unkempt assassin brags that he's using a new spear skill from Silla and I have the urge to say, "You're dealing with MUNNO buddy!! He's Kim Nam Gil's teacher!" A reference to Queen Seon Duk, Munno Chief Im doesn't bat an eyelash and chop the spear in half! YAY!!

Buh...trouble comes in pair because another assassin plays dirty! Hey you! What section are you in? I'm sure as hell Chun doesn't like this despicable methods! He shoots an arrow at Chief Im's thigh and then another at his heart!

He's about to aim a third arrow but is stabbed by Chun's incoming sword. Chun doesn't end there because he slices Hong Dae Joo's man too! So badass, this man. He alights his horse, grabs the assassin by the neck and berates him for taking away the pleasure of a fair fight. *gulps*

Chief Im and Prince Sado are backed towards the forest and Chun comments that he doesn't want to kill them but the choice is not in his hands. Chief Im is not discouraged because the battle has not been fought yet. Chun likes his unyielding attitude. Prince Sado proves he's not an easy target by taking down the last two assassins. Two against one now. Please tell me you guys can win this!! Tell me!

At a critical moment, Chief Im is distracted by a person. His eyes grow wide as he sees Yeo Woon, tagging along with another assassin.

Chief Im drops the fight with Chun and walks towards Yeo Woon. "So...all along, this is your true face?" Yeo Woon lowers his head in shame. Chief Im inches closer to slash Yeo Woon but is stopped short by Chun as he says, "This child is originally from Hoksa Chorong. You can't kill Hoksa Chorong's successor."

Chun stabs Chief Im through his stomach and save the last fatal move for Yeo Woon. The latter finally raises his head, eyes brimming with tears, and unsheathes his sword...."I'm Sorry."

In his last moment, Chief Im poses a respectable stance. Prince Sado looks at the enemies menacingly and runs towards their direction.
